Abstract. Vestibular schwannomas (VSs) are tumors that arise from the vestibular branch of the eighth cranial nerve. They originate along the zone of transition between the central and peripheral myelin located near the medial aperture of the internal acoustic canal (IAC). Vestibular neuronitis (inflammation of the vestibulocochlear nerve) affects the branch associated with balance, resulting in dizziness or vertigo but no change in hearing. The term neuronitis (damage to the sensory neurons of the vestibular ganglion) is also used. The vestibular apparatus senses changes in the position of the head in relation to gravity.
Behind One of 12 pairs of cranial nerves, the vestibulocochlear nerve, of which the vestibular nerve is a branch, emerges from the pons and the medulla, two parts of the brainstem. The vestibular nerve is one of the two branches of the vestibulocochlear nerve (the cochlear nerve being the other). Vestibular neuritis is a disorder that affects the nerve of the inner ear called the vestibulocochlear nerve. This nerve sends balance and head position information from the inner ear to the brain. When this nerve becomes swollen (inflamed), it disrupts the way the information would normally be interpreted by the brain.
If disease or injury damages these processing areas, vestibular disorders can result. Vestibular neuritis refers to inflammation of the vestibular branch of the vestibulocochlear nerve. The aetiology of this condition is not fully understood, but some cases are thought to be due to reactivation of the herpes simplex virus.

The common cochlear artery gives rise to the main cochlear artery, which radiates from the modiolus to supply the spiral ganglion, organ of Corti and striavascularis. The posterior vestibular artery, another branch of the common cochlear artery, supplies the majority of the saccule (inferior The vestibular system includes the parts of the inner ear and brain that process the sensory information involved with controlling balance and eye movements. If disease or injury damages these processing areas, vestibular disorders can result.

The vestibular root passes through the vestibular ganglion, and after that, it splits at the fundus of the internal acoustic meatus to the following branches: The utriculo-ampullary nerve; The saccular nerve; The posterior ampullary nerve
The vestibular or Scarpa's ganglion is the ganglion of the vestibular branch of the vestibulocochlear nerve. It contains the cell bodies of the vestibular nerve as the superior and inferior vestibular branches unite and is located within the nerve as it passes through the lateral aspect of the internal auditory canal.
